History of FSR
“What is now Family Service Regina began in 1913 as the Bureau of Public Welfare when it was responsible for administering material relief to the poor”. After about 14 years the organization began the process of defining a particular area of expertise, specifically, family case work. Over the years Family Service Regina has grown stronger, and what was initially an organization that was used to assist families disrupted by the upheaval of war has transcended into an organization that provides counseling, Family Violence Services, Employee and Family Assistance programs as well as services for seniors.
Since 1913, the agency has faithfully reflected the social concerns of the many communities within Regina. At a time when social welfare was non-existent, Family Service Regina opened its doors to Regina's community from organizing material relief to helping rehabilitate ex-prisoners. And today Family Service Regina has continued to welcome those in the community who find themselves in need of assistance. The organization has adapted to the changing economic and demographic environments and continues to develop and create effective programs in order to address ever changing environments.
