Family Service Regina is a non-profit charitable organization committed to enhancing the well-being of individuals and families through innovative, compassionate services. For almost a century, we’ve been a trusted partner in building strong, healthy communities by offering counseling, advocacy, and support to those facing life’s challenges.
Founded in 1913 as the Bureau of Public Welfare, Family Service Regina began in response to economic hardship, with the goal of providing relief to those most in need. In 1931, during the Great Depression, we were revived as the Regina Welfare Bureau, broadening our scope to support families and individuals through difficult times.
Over the years, we’ve continuously adapted to meet the evolving needs of our community.
From pioneering programs like home care, Meals on Wheels, and family counselling, to leading advocacy efforts for domestic violence survivors, we have always been at the forefront of addressing social challenges.
In 1956, we became the Family Service Bureau of Regina, solidifying our role as a leader in providing comprehensive family services. Today, as Family Service Regina, we continue to innovate, offering support to families in crisis, empowering young parents, and helping victims of violence navigate the justice system.
As we approach our 100th year, our purpose is clearer than ever: to provide hope, empowerment, and opportunities for growth, ensuring that every individual and family has the support they need to thrive in a strong, connected community.
At Family Service Regina, we believe positive human connections are the cornerstone of well-being and resilience. Through collaborative partnerships, we are dedicated to contributing to an equitable, inclusive, and violence-free environment that empowers individuals and strengthens our community.
Our purpose statement emphasizes:
We envision a safe, inclusive, and connected community where all people are resilient and thriving.
We treat all individuals with dignity and compassion. We respect our clients, staff, and volunteers by recognizing the inherent worth of every person and hold a belief in the goodness and potential of each individual.
We are committed to addressing systemic inequities and creating a culture where every individual is valued for their unique experiences. By challenging practices that perpetuate inequity, we ensure all people have equal access to the support, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive. We continually learn and grow to foster a just and inclusive environment for everyone.
We support individuals and communities in gaining self-autonomy and agency through collaborative skill-building and access to resources. By strengthening social and community connections, we foster dignity, resilience, and long-term growth, ensuring equal access to opportunities for lasting success.
We anticipate the dynamic needs of our community. Through social innovation, creativity, and strategic action, we proactively address emerging challenges and opportunities. We prioritize collaboration, inclusivity, and adaptability in creating client-centered solutions that drive both immediate and lasting change. Our approach blends innovation with sustainability to ensure a positive, enduring impact on the lives of those we serve.
We hold ourselves accountable to our stakeholders and those we serve. We are committed to transparency, ethical practices, and measurable outcomes. Through a continuous process of quality improvement, we actively evaluate and refine our services to ensure they meet the highest standards of effectiveness, efficiency, and client satisfaction. Our focus on accountability drives us to be responsive, adaptable, and responsible stewards of resources, ensuring our impact is meaningful and lasting.
We believe in the power of relationships and the strength of connections. By working collaboratively with the people we serve, our colleagues, and partner organizations, we build stronger communities and deliver better outcomes. Through teamwork and shared commitment, we foster an environment of mutual support, respect, and collective growth.
At Family Service Regina, we acknowledge that we are situated on the Treaty 4 territories of the Nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda peoples and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation. We recognize the enduring relationship that Indigenous peoples have maintained with this land and their deep history here.
As an organization, we are committed to truth and reconciliation and engaging in meaningful dialogue, learning from Indigenous peoples, and taking concrete actions to address the ongoing impacts of colonization.
